I am a New York State licensed psychologist with over 30 years of experience. I have offices in Great Neck, NY and Riverdale, NY. I work with children, adolescents, adults, and families. I have extensive experience treating adhd, anxiety, depression, family conflict and social problems.
I take what is known as a "common factors" approach to therapy. Common factors has extensive scientific support. It doesn't confine the therapist to any one school of therapy. Rather it puts forth the belief that most therapies are effective when they include the following factors:
- the clients motivation to change
- the quality of relationship between the therapist and the client - also called the therapeutic alliance
- the specific therapeutic techniques and interventions used by the therapist
- the trust and confidence the client has in the therapist
The therapeutic interventions I use are directly related to the preferences of my clients and the specific problems they face. Some clients will respond best to specific techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Others might benefit most from insight oriented therapy or family therapy. Still others will benefit from a combination of all or some of the above.
One more factor I would add will sound obvious. That is the motivation of the therapist to help clients make positive changes in their lives. I am passionate about my work and maintain the same level of gratification in helping others as I did 30 years when I began my career.
